Phase 2 construction of China's first private LNG import terminal started on Dec 25 at the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in Zhoushan, a further step in the city's efforts to build a full oil and gas industry chain in the zone.

The ENN Zhoushan LNG Import Terminal is a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal owned by the private Chinese gas distributor ENN Group.

The first phase of the terminal project, which entered commercial operation on Oct 19, includes two 160,000-cubic-meter LNG tanks, three wharfs and other auxiliary facilities, with a capacity to handle 3 million metric tons of LNG per year.

The second phase, worth over 2.4 billion yuan ($0.35 billion), is projected to be completed in 2021, and will feature two new 160,000-cu m LNG tanks with an increased service capacity of 5 million tons of LNG annually.

ENN Group plans to build an LNG industrial park, LNG container port and other related facilities in Zhoushan, according to a manager from the company, adding that they aim to enhance the LNG receiving, storage, transferring and filling capacity in the city to build it into an international clean energy base.
