A seminar on the public security at tourist attractions was held in Zhoushan on Nov 29, where more than 120 representatives from the nation's public security authorities and 23 scenic spots' public security departments discussed how to better maintain the safety of tourists and the rule of law in tourism.
As an island city abundant in tourist attractions, Zhoushan has long been attaching importance to improving its tourist police to make it one of the safest tourist destinations in the nation, and has made remarkable achievements over the years.
Statistics show the city's tourism-related criminal cases and public security cases so far this year have seen a year-on-year decrease of 46.7 percent and 13.1 percent respectively, while the number of tourists saw a large increase at the same time.
The public security authorities at the city's Mount Putuo area introduced their experiences over the years in maintaining tourist safety in the Mount Putuo Scenic Spot, especially by making use of the advanced high-tech technologies.
For example, they have caught 113 fugitives by applying the electronic recognition technology, and kept the number of public security cases at zero during major festivals.
The seminar also saw the awarding ceremony of several policemen who have made outstanding contributions to tourist security, and a "Mount Putuo Initiative" that calls on public security organs to keep improving their work in maintaining the safety and harmony at tourist attractions.
