The Ningbo-Zhoushan Port witnessed rapid growth in its bulk cargo throughput between January and October, with 916 million metric tons of cargo handled, up 7.2 percent year-on-year, ranking among the nation's fastest-growing ports.

The achievement is a result of the efforts of Zhejiang Seaport Group, operator of the port, in strengthening the port's role in the development of the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) this year, with the goal of building an Asian Distribution Center of Iron Ore, an International Oil Storage, Trade and Processing Center and an International Food Distribution Center in the zone.

To realize the objective of increasing the iron ore storage capacity of Zhejiang FTZ to 15 million tons by 2020, Zhejiang Seaport Group has accelerated the port construction in this area and saw more than 21.21 million tons of iron ore handled at the Shulanghu Iron Ore Port of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, surpassing Shulanghu's total volume of iron ore throughput last year.

To develop the full industrial chain of oil, a top priority in Zhejiang FTZ, Zhejiang Seaport Group has vigorously pushed forward the oil storage project construction in this area, and cooperated with foreign companies in bonded bunkering and crude oil trade to support the construction of the International Oil Storage, Trade and Processing Center.

As for the International Food Distribution Center, Zhejiang Seaport Group has been working on the fourth phase of the Laotangshan Port of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, to make sure that food throughput will increase to nine million tons by 2020. Moreover, dual sea-river fleets have been built to contribute to the construction of the center.
