Port throughput in Daishan county of Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, had surpassed 100 million metric tons in 2018 by the end of October, the first time that the milestone has been reached in a year in the county's history, according to the transportation bureau of the county.

Daishan has seen 110 million metric tons of cargoes handled in 2018 up to the end of October, up 29.5 percent year-on-year, including 48.21 million tons of export goods and 62.04 million tons of import goods, up 13.8 percent and 45.2 percent year-on-year, respectively.

It is expected that the county's annual port throughput will reach 125 million tons by the end of 2018.

Mineral building materials accounted for most of the county's cargoes, at 64.78 million tons, around 58.8 percent of the total throughput.

It was partly due to the full operations of Shulanghu Island Ore Transfer Base Phase One Stage Two, which boosted the significant growth of metallic ore imports and exports, to 41.01 million tons, up 70.5 percent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, the increase of stone exports from Jinxing Mining Co and the newly operated Zhoushan Haigang Port Development Co contributed to the stone throughput growth in the county.

"The growth of port throughput will also boost the development of the county's water transport," said an official from the transportation bureau of Daishan, adding that chemical throughput is expected to increase in the county in 2019.
