Shengshan Island, with 4.22 square kilometers of land area, is the easternmost inhabited island of Zhejiang province.
Surrounded in myth and mist, this former marine village has an unfathomable pre-modern ambience that has persisted, even after the fishing industry in the area began to dwindle and fishermen moved out to bigger islands to make a living.
But the island will never let you down. The huge, steep Dongya Cliff – which means the easternmost in Chinese – offers visitors magnificent views of the East China Sea.
The 781-meter-long Sanjiaojiang Bridge connecting Shengshan Island to Gouqi Island is also a great resource for visitors who plan to visit both islands.
